Tips-for-Anti-Aging

These anti-ageing skin care tips can help you maintain and even improve your appearance while benefiting your overall health.

1. Protect yourself from the sun

Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause wrinkles, age spots and increases the risk of skin cancer. It is recommended to apply sunscreen generously to your skin and reapply it every two hours if you are spending a prolonged time under the sun.

Unless absolutely necessary, avoid the sun between 10 am and 4 pm as you can get a sunburn which significantly increases the lifetime risk of developing skin cancer. But if you plan to spend more time outdoors, make sure you cover your skin with long-sleeve shirts, long pants and wide-brimmed hats.

2. Don’t smoke

Smoking brings with it a plethora of problems, but apart from its deadly health hazards, it also has a negative impact on your skin. It makes you look older and contributes to increasing wrinkles. It even depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients while damaging collagen and elastin. Smoking also increases your risk of squamous cell skin cancer.

3 Treat your skin gently

Limit bath time:

Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. So always use warm water to cleanse your skin.

Avoid strong soaps:

Strong soaps can strip oil from your skin, which is why you should always choose mild cleansers.

Moisturize dry skin:

There are different types of moisturizers for different types of skin, so use one that fits your skin type the best.

Shave carefully:

Apply shaving cream, lotion or gel and use a clean sharp razor. Ensure that you shave in the direction the hair grows and not against it.

Pat dry:

Gently pat your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains on your skin.

4. Eat a healthy diet

Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. Research suggests that a diet rich in fish oil or fish oil supplements and low in unhealthy fats and processed or refined carbohydrates might promote younger-looking skin. And yes, drink enough water, as this helps keep your skin hydrated

5. Manage Stress
