Choose a Serum

Vitamin C can be found in various skin care treatments, but the serum is the most effective. Serums are far more powerful than creams or toners, and they're simple to add to your routine. Depending on your skin's tolerance and current regimen, you can use serums once or every other day.

Vitamin C serum isn't a replacement for sunscreen, and it’s crucial to apply them both as they complement each other to improve skin protection. It's important to note that vitamin C serum turns to a golden yellow or brown color when oxidized. There are no studies that demonstrate that oxidized vitamin C is harmful to the skin, but it is less effective.

Get The Right Formula

The pH level of vitamin C determines how well it is absorbed. For best absorption, seek a product with a low pH of around 3.5 if you have normal skin. If you have sensitive skin, choose a product with a pH range of 5 to 6.

Apply a few drops of vitamin C serum to thoroughly washed skin every morning, followed by moisturizer and broad-spectrum sunscreen. Since vitamin C has a reservoir effect, taking it once a day is sufficient because it will influence your skin for up to 24 hours.

Store It In The Right Place

It’s important to store your vitamin C products at cool temperatures and avoid sun exposure to prevent oxidization. There are two types of vitamin C serums, particularly water-based and anhydrous (without water). The former is more unstable and light-sensitive and is usually kept in opaque or amber-colored bottles to protect it from the sun. The latter is more stable, even when exposed to sunlight.
