Face Washing 101: Do It the Right Way

While the act of washing our face feels pretty simple and obvious, it’s more than just splashing some water and wiping it with a hand towel. The way we wash our face can make or break our skincare routine. Improper face-washing can lead to issues that we want to avoid such as dryness, irritation, and even breakouts. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! We break down all the steps with our face washing 101 guide!

  1. Wash your hands and remove all makeup

Make sure you wash your hands properly before touching your face, as unclean hands definitely do more harm than good for your face. Use a gentle makeup remover to remove makeup - Reviderm Cleansing Sponge and 2 Clean Eye are great choices! The latter can even remove waterproof makeup effortlessly.

  1. Use lukewarm water to wet your skin

While hot water on a chilly day or cold water during the hot summer can feel good on the skin, extreme temperatures can cause skin irritation. Stick to a middle ground and use lukewarm water to remove the dirt within your pores. You can also use a gentle facial cleanser to remove oil, dirt, and any bacteria from your skin. Also, don’t just stop at your chin, your neck deserves just as much care as your face.

Tip: Avoid scrubbing as it can cause irritation to your skin. Instead, massage the cleanser into your skin with gentle circular motions.

  1. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry

Gently rinse your face with lukewarm water and use a soft towel to pat your skin dry. It is recommended to use a fresh clean towel for wiping your face as the residue particles from a previous wash may still lie in unwashed towels.

  1. Apply Moisturizer

Washing your face can sometimes cause dryness and itchiness, so it’s time to rebalance your skin. You can use a toner like Reviderm Triple C Cure to rebalance your skin while also providing it with the nourishing benefits of Vitamin C.

  1. Don’t overdo it

Washing your face twice a day is the recommended amount, so don’t go overboard and bombard your skin with excess chemicals. However, keep in mind that you need to rinse your face after sweating as excess perspiration can cause skin irritation.

Now that we have reached the end of our Face Washing 101 guide, keep in mind that taking care of your skin is just the first step in maintaining it. The rest of it depends on the products you use and your lifestyle choices among many other factors.
